This easy to keep tropical plant can be placed in restaurants, cafes, offices, lobbies as well as in your home if kept as bonsai trees. He is considered one of the favorite houseplants for feng shui (Chinese geomancy) as it is believed that it surely brings good financial fortune when kept in the southeast area of your home. Wow! Isn’t it amazing!

Pet Safe: Yes

Skill Level: I’m great for a beginner

He just loves to stay in medium to bright light. to enjoy his sunbathing by collecting the desired level of light to function properly. Don’t forget to give them their dose of heat otherwise the leaves can wilt without direct sunlight. During the winter, the growth slows down due to less heat.

Don’t miss to water your baby thoroughly once the soil goes dry and get rid of any excess water from his pot. Winter season reduces the watering requirements as growth slows down and there is no need to water him anywhere near as much as in spring and summer. Never over-water him!

He demands a temperature of 60- 64 degrees Fahrenheit to stay healthy. A full sun to partial shade can work better for him.

He needs moderate to high humidity stages to grow and survive. Pebble home-made humidifiers can also work for him but you can also put them in your bathroom for some time to achieve an optimized environment for him along with some warmth and steam from your hot showers.

His cuttings are comparatively simple to propagate into new plants by utilizing a soilless rooting source and some good fertilizer. If you don’t have time for that then just go to your local nursery to buy a ready-made soilless mixture. If you are active enough, you can form your own by mixing a balanced amount of peat moss, coarse sand, vermiculite, and a modest quantity of manure.

You can feed him once a month with some good fertilizer during the spring and summer season when it is growing the most. He likes to take water-soluble, well-balanced food at half the recommended strength. It is not required in the slow growth winter season.

Fun Fact

You know, it is considered a bad omen to keep him in your bathroom in feng shui practice by Chinese because of the belief that its positive energy drains away when kept there.

Should I repot my plant once it arrives?

When you receive your plant, it has been growing in it nursery pot for some time.  It is recommended that your repot your plant so that you have the opportunity to inspect the roots. This is a great opportunity to use a cache pot to match your home decor theme.  We offer a variety of cashe pots for sale.

When repotting it is suggested to repot in the same size as the nursery pot but if your roots are extensive and full you can "pot up" your plant to a size larger which usually means adding an inch to either side of the plant. Be careful while watering them so they don’t hold too much water or their dirt gets too wet.

We you use Noot Rescue Mix, as a recommended soil for indoor houseplants or use a standard potting mix but be more careful about watering instru

When is the time to "pot up" or transfer my plant into a larger pot?

The answer to this is when your water is draining out of the pot completely and never really gets your soil moistened.  It is then that there are likely more roots more soil. Repotting is usually done once in a year or so.

Make sure to never "pot up" more than an inch on each side and immediately after potting, lightly water your plant.
