Rufibarba is nicknamed the ‘Furry Feather Calathea’ because its wavy leaves and stems are covered with little hairs that give it a velvet feel. The undersides of these leaves are purple.
The plant's common name is due to its fuzzy, fur-like underleaf texture, which is unusual in its genus. Common as a houseplant, the species requires warm temperatures, shade, and humidity to thrive, and may produce small yellow flowers.
