Pet Safe: Yes

Skill Level: I’m great for a beginner

Light

He enjoys the morning sun; you can just place it anywhere near your window. It needs one-half day of sunshine to aggravate its energy source. But you can also opt for any heated sunroom or greenhouse with at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Keeping them in low light all day can cause root rot.

Watering

You need to water him on a regular basis especially in the season of spring and summer otherwise water it 3 times a week. Don’t over-water him, an under-water approach is the best way to make him grow happily. Rain water is the best for him but you can use regular water but make sure it’s not hard water.

Temperature

He likes to stay warm, so a temperature of above 60 degrees Fahrenheit will work amazingly for him.

Humidity

Remember, he requires moderate to high humidity levels that you can easily manage in your house by using a humidifier and in case if you can’t buy a humidifier, you can simply use a pebble tray by placing the plant on it. You just have to take a few pebbles in a dish, cover it up with water and place your plant pot on it.

Propagation

Well, he is not easy to propagate at home but if you still want to do it then the most apt way is to use semi-ripe stem tip or stem cuttings. But it’s better to buy a grown-up plant and take care of it like your own child.

Fertilizer

He needs the same level of fertilization whether kept as an indoor or outdoor plant. You have to make a mixture of half tablespoon of water soluble all-purpose  24-8-16 fertilizer into 1 gallon of water and use this new mixture with watering when needed.

Fun Fact

He is also known as Dinner Plate Aralia because of its round and flat leaf shape. Native Indonesians have used him as an alternative for utensils to serve their food.

Should I repot my plant once it arrives?

When you receive your plant, it has been growing in it nursery pot for some time.  It is recommended that your repot your plant so that you have the opportunity to inspect the roots. This is a great opportunity to use a cache pot to match your home decor theme.  We offer a variety of cashe pots for sale.

When repotting it is suggested to repot in the same size as the nursery pot but if your roots are extensive and full you can "pot up" your plant to a size larger which usually means adding an inch to either side of the plant. Be careful while watering them so they don’t hold too much water or their dirt gets too wet.

We you use Noot Rescue Mix, as a recommended soil for indoor houseplants or use a standard potting mix but be more careful about watering instru

When is the time to "pot up" or transfer my plant into a larger pot?

The answer to this is when your water is draining out of the pot completely and never really gets your soil moistened.  It is then that there are likely more roots more soil. Repotting is usually done once in a year or so.

Make sure to never "pot up" more than an inch on each side and immediately after potting, lightly water your plant.

Why does my plant look different then the website?

Important The first lifestyle photo is for purposes of showing your plants potential size at maturity and is not a true representation of what you will receive.

Live plants will have variations in color, texture, finish, and size. While we make every effort to display our plants as accurately as possible, there may be subtle differences from what is displayed online.
