Calathea Roseopicta "Dottie" - Prayer Plant - 6" Pot
Calathea ‘Dottie’ (Calathea roseopicta ‘Dottie’) along with other Calathea belong in the family Marantaceae also known the prayer plant family. They are called prayer plants because of the way they move there leaves throughout the day, lowering and raising them as if in prayer. The Calathea including ‘Dottie’ are an understory plant in nature. This means they grow below trees and are heavily shaded making them perfect for low light situations. This dark beauty is especially dramatic with its purple-black leaves with pink variegation. The undersides of their leaves are a rich burgundy color. They only grow to be 12 inches tall and 12 inches wide. They make a great addition to the other Calathea we have in stock.
Calatheas come from a tropical environment and enjoy conditions that mimic that ecosystem.
The soil should remain evenly moist. Do not allow it to dry out between watering or to sit in soggy soil.
Calathea ‘Dottie’ can handle low to medium light. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves and cause the leaves to lose their color.
Place the Calathea ‘Dottie’ in a warm humid environment. Keep temperatures between 65°F and 85°F. Pay special attention to vents and drafty locations especially during colder months.
Calathea are non-toxic and make good companions for dogs, cats, and humans.
