The “calathea” genus is known for over 300 uniquely shaped and colored houseplants- but also for its picky plant members. When cared for properly, this pet-safe calathea can grow 2-4 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide, depending on several growing factors.
LIGHT: Indirect sunlight, moderate or bright. Direct sun will scorch the leaves.
SOIL: Well-draining, should retain some moisture, grows best in peat and perlite mix.
WATER: Water regularly with distilled water during summer, and less frequently during colder months. Do not overwater.
TEMPERATURE: Prefers warm temperatures around 60-70°F, with 50-55°F as an absolute minimum. Calatheas are tropical plants and thrive in warm temperatures. They also cannot tolerate sudden temperature changes, so avoid placing near heater, air conditioner, or drafty window.
HUMIDITY: Requires a minimum of 50-70% humidity. Place this plant close to a humidifier, in a bathroom, or over a tray of water and pebbles. Appreciates misting.
SAFETY: Pet safe, non-toxic.
FERTILIZER: Every 15 days, April-October.
PROPAGATION: Divisions.
