The dieffenbachia, or dumb cane, is mainly known for being low maintenance, low light tolerant, and its silly name. It earns the nickname, “dumb cane”, because it makes one’s mouth swell up and become numb if ingested- not for being a dumb plant. For this reason, we do not recommend growing dumb canes around pets, small children, or anyone who may ingest the leaves or sap. Please see more care info included below for this houseplant and all our other selections.
